Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn traveled to open Theppharatwetchanukun Hospital in Celebration of Her Royal Highness’s 60th Birthday and opened buildings for in-patients at Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai Province on 20 January 2015. Her Royal Highness donated a personal fund for the construction of the new hospital. Prof. Suwat Chariyalertsak, MD, PhD, the director of the Research Institute for Health Sciences and Prof. Kittipan Rerkasem, MD, PhD, Non-communicable diseases research unit leader and Dr. Tippawan Prapamontol, PhD, senior researcher and staff of Smog Pollution and Health Study joined with the hospital to welcome Her Royal Highness Princess and reported the results of the research study on Smog Pollution and Health in the Upper Northern Thailand” to Her Royal Highness. The research study was conducted by RIHES under the cooperation of the Theppharatwetchanukun Hospital and the communities in Mae Chaem District. It was funded by Chiang Mai University.

On 19 January 2015, Prof. Suwat Chariyalertsak, MD, PhD, the director of the Research Institute for Health Sciences and Prof. Kittipan Rerkasem MD, PhD, Non-communicable diseases research unit leader and Dr. Tippawan Prapamontol, PhD, Senior Researchers on Smog Pollution and Health  welcomed  Prof. Ratchata Ratchatanawin, M.D., Public Health Minister who came to oversee an exhibition booth of RIHES at the  Theppharatwetchanukun Hospital to help prepare for the visit of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
