HPTN 052 study is a clinical trial study which is a randomized trial to evaluate the effectiveness of antiretroviral therapy to prevent the sexual transmission of HIV infection in serodiscordant couples/partners. This study has been conducted by HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN).


The HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) is a collaboration between scientists and communities worldwide to conduct the research studies to develop, evaluate and promote biomedical and behavioral HIV prevention studies and plan for treatment to reduce HIV transmission. HPTN primarily received its funding from the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and additional funding from the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Institute of Mental Health under the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH).
