Background

The Research Institute for Health Sciences (RIHES) has joined Microbicide Trials Network (MTN) since 2013. MTN network is a clinical trials network focuses on HIV/AIDS studies.  RIHES has conducted a rectal microbicide study in men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women at PIMAN clinic.


PIMAN Clinic

PIMAN Clinic was established since 2008 with the objectives to conduct study on prevention of HIV/AIDS infection in men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women. PIMAN Clinic also provides HIV rapid test and counseling for Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) for people who come to receive the services. PIMAN Clinic is opened from Monday – Friday at 9.00 am.-18.00 pm. At the clinic, there are 3 counselling rooms, two examination rooms, a room for blood sample collection and a room for document filing and Computer-Aided-Self-Interview (CASI).


Safety and confidentiality

Study information and documents are kept in locked cabinets in locked rooms. The access is limited. Only the study staff are allowed to access to the information. Codes are used in the study documents instead of names. Moreover, nurse counselors are trained and proficient in providing counselling for HIV testing.
