CLINICAL MICROSCOPY

Involves the use of microscopes to examine various specimens (including blood, urine, feces and other body fluids) for sign of abnormality or infection.

FLOW CYTOMETRY

Flow cytometer is used for differentiation of  various lymphocyte subsets, especially CD3, CD4, CD8, B-cell, NK cell and other Immune Markers (T cell Biomarkers) which is important for monitoring of patient’s immune functioning.

HEMATOLOGY

Involved the detection and classification of the various different types of blood cells. Our Hematology Analyzer performs some of the most common tests including the number and types of White cells, the number of Red cells and the concentration of blood Hemoglobin.

CLINICAL CHEMISTRY

Provides the tests that measure the chemicals produced by gland and organ systems. The tests performed by this section of the lab include Liver, Kidney, and Pancreas functioning, Cardiac enzyme and Electrolyte levels, Lipid profile, in blood.

SEROLOGY

Reveals antibody and antigen levels in the blood in order to assist with detection, diagnosis and treatment  of different type of infection. One of the most important tests performed by this section is HIV serology by EIA and Confrimatory assay. Other include testing for Hepatitis, Syphilis, Thyroid and Latent TB (IGRA).

MOLECULAR BIOLOGY

Make use of highly sensitive and specific Real-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) techniques to detect the nucleic acid that help in the diagnosis of many different type of infectious diseases.

HIV RNA and HCV RNA (Viral load) as well as Chlamydia trachomatis and Neiseria Gonorrhoeae testing, M.Tuberculosis complex (MTB complex), SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) and HLA-B  57:01 Allele are performed by PCR techniques in this section of the lab.

Laboratory Quality Assurance/Quality Control

Clinical Laboratory has established several means of quality assurance. The CL participates in the Thai national laboratory certification program, sponsored by the Thai Ministry of Public Health (MOPH). In addition, Clinical Laboratory has been taken part in College of American Pathologists (CAP) proficiency scheme for Chemistry, HIV Serology, Viral marker, Mycobacteriology, Chlamydia/Neisseria  (CT/NG), Syphilis. It also participates in One World Accuracy External Quality Assessment for Hematology, Microbiology, Parasitology and Microscopy. Apart from that, the CL has joined the Leucocyte Immunophenotyping Scheme of UK NEQAS in the United Kingdom as well as HIV Drug resistance and HIV-1 RNA (Viral load) Scheme of VQA in USA.
