On 16 July 2013, proposed THAI CTU Co-Principal Investigators, Prof. Suwat Chariyalertsak and Prof. Kiat Ruxrungtham, and the proposed CTU Scientific & Evaluation Committee (SEC) Co-Chairs, Prof. Praphan Phanuphak, and Prof. Thira Sirisanthana welcomed a group from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Division of Extramural Activities (DEA) to visit RIHES. The visit was led by the deputy director of the DEA, Dr. Susan E. Old. She was accompanied by the director of the Grants Management Program (GMP, DEA), Mary Kirker and the director of the Office of Research Training and Special Programs (ORTSP, DEA), Dr. Paula S. Strickland, and other members of the DEA, Mr. Michael W. Fato, Ms. Samantha Tempchin and Ms. Raushanah Newman. The group reviewed our plans for implementing the THAI CTU (if funded) and then visited RIHES clinical and laboratory facilities.
