Research objectives:

1.To evaluate the prevalence of peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in hemodialysis patients

2.To investigate the occurrence of leg ulcer, amputation or death in hemodialysis patients with PAD during 1-year follow-up study

3.To study the risk factors associated with the occurrence of leg ulcer, amputation or death in hemodialysis patients with PAD

Funding agency:  Center of excellence Chiang Mai University 2018

Study design:

1.Establish intensive research projects from the core strength of existing units, for example, clinical study in diabetic foot, carotid artery disease, cardiovascular disease, environmental sciences, food safety, etc.

2.Operate epidemiological research of Thai people from mega database including the 5th Thai National Health Examination Survey (NHES-V) which involved 19,331 people. Moreover, we have done statistically analysis of the sickness among Thai people using the most comprehensive database from National Health Security Office (NHSO).

3.Developed the research which have high economically impact. For example, collaborated with Thailand Center of Excellence in Physics (ThEP) in development of Plasma technology to treat chronic wound or those of with antimicrobial resistance.
4.Establish high quality research by using network strategy in connections of various international research groups. During the past decade, our researchers have been collaborating with University of Oxford to create more than 20 publications with high impact factor in the topic of cerebrovascular disease.  The research team will sustain the established network and also continue to build more network in the next future.

Project title: 2. Burden and care system in patients with peripheral arterial disease

Research objectives:

1.To study the prevalence of cardiovascular morbidity/mortality in diabetic patients with peripheral arterial disease

2.To study the risk factors associated with the occurrence of cardiovascular morbidity/mortality in diabetic patients with peripheral arterial disease

3.To study the efficiency of care system in actual practice for treatment and referral of the patient.

Project title: 3.Systematic review of anesthetic and surgical technique during carotid endarterectomy

Research objectives:

1. To systematically review the literature to determine safe and effective anesthetic and surgical technique during carotid endarterectomy

Study period: October 2018 – September 2019

Project title: Good clinical practice guideline in patients with arteriovenous access (Phase 2)

Project Investigator:  Professor Kittipan Rerkasem, MD., PhD.

Co Investigator:

        4.Tempong Reanpang, MD.

        5. Chanawit sittisombut, MD.

        6. Supapong Arworn, MD.

Research objectives

1.To compare the difference between EPNT and non-EPNT patients in the topic of: function of AVA, rate of infection, quality of life, occurrence of cardiovascular morbidity/mortality and surveillance of vascular access in each dialysis center.

Funding agency: Health Systems Research Institute (HSRI)

Study sites: Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital and Chiangrai Prachanukroh Hospital

Study design:

Data collected from 114 patients in Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital during year 2013 revealed that the chance of success AVA still low (38%). Over 68% of the patients have to pay for repeat AVA, either by themselves or by the government. Therefore, public health care system required appropriate clinical practice guideline to increase the chance of success AVA, not only to reduce patient’s suffering but also the economic loss. The proposed EPNT system, modified from Westmead System of Westmead Hospital, Sydney, Austeria have been approved that could reduce rate of AVA failure to 0% during the pass 5 year period. The present study received great advices from Prof. Swinnen and was supported by Health Systems Research Institute (HSRI).

Study period: April 2018 – April 2019
